Dog of the Month, May 2019: Homie
Homie, a 15-year-old Miniature Pinscher, is living the good life in the Pacific Northwest after his long-time owner relocated from the sun state of Arizona to take in their next grand adventure.
Homie originally found his forever home one spring day in Arizona in 2004 when his now owner had just moved to town. “I didn’t know anyone there and wanted a companion,” said Homie’s owner Aaron Hendrickson. “My first thought was to check out the ferrets at the pet store, but when I got there, well, there was this adorable little 1-year-old Min Pin from Valley of the Sun Dog Rescue outside greeting customers while trying to find his forever home.
Continued Aaron, “I went inside the store, checked out some ferrets, but after a couple minutes I beelined it back outside to play with Homie (named Max at the time). I went home that day, thought it over and drove out to Valley of the Sun Dog Rescue to bring him home.” Now christened Homie, as he is the inseparable companion of Aaron, the pair were ready to take on the world.
In those early days, Homie was very high energy always wanting to run around and play and help Aaron with all those home projects. After a hard days’ work, he would love to lay out in the sun taking in the warm ways or nestle himself into a warm spot between two people or the blankets. In short, he likes it warm and toasty and continues to be quite the snuggler to this day.
“What do you call the pup that fills your home with such love,” continued Aaron. “Well, we tend to go with Holmes, Home Skillet, Home Slice, Home Boy, Homester, Old Man, Home Sauce, Home Fry, Buds and, of course, Little Guy.”
Homie has started to slow down with his older age but still loves a little tug-of-war and a braided rope or antlers to play with; remaining young at heart.
Home has been visiting Bothell Pet Hospital for the last four years where he is now getting supportive care for his diabetes.
Continued Aaron, “Homie is truly hanging in there. He may do a lot of sleeping, but still enjoys his walks. Luckily, he doesn’t seem to mind his insulin injections too much and is doing quite well.”
At Bothell Pet Hospital, we are so glad Homie is responding so well and we look forward to seeing him and Aaron again soon for their regular check-in. Here is to along, quality life for sun dog Homie!
